Musandam, Oman '14

Being confined with people, particularly family, in a small space for a long period of time is always an experience. One of bickering, frustration, annoyance, anger, self realization and a true test of patience. This past Eid break my family, our family friends and I took a road trip and headed up North to Musandam, Oman for the day. It was four hours of desert scape views, small town centers, breathtaking mountains and crystal clear beaches. The water was the perfect temperature, not too hot and not too cold, and on top of that it was clean and undisturbed, unlike the busy beaches of Dubai. If you live in Dubai, it is a trip worth taking.

Tips and lessons learnt:
  • Have your journey mapped out before embarking on your trip
  • Carry Snacks and above all, water
  • Proper planning creates time to enjoy dhow cruises and diving trips (which we failed to do)
  • Radio alone will not suffice as a source of entertainment
  • Be prepared to pay border check fees: 25Dhs in Dubai and 50Dhs in Oman
  • Be aware of the exchange rates between countries. Omani Riyal 1=10 UAE Dirhams
  • Switch off your mobile data once you cross the border
  • Ensure time to enjoy the sandy beaches and water
  • There aren't any good restaurants around, hence pack a lunch or look for a hotel nearby to eat
  • Start planning asap, its a great weekend getaway
